Cattery News - Fall 2023

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind here at the cattery in the last few months. Setareh and Dagmar’s kittens transitioned to their new FURever homes in Septemer and Blue’s litter in October. It felt as if we blinked and then summer was over. Well, officially at least. Here in sunny South Carolina, the warmer weather is only recently beginning to wind down, but with it, the busy holiday season is quickly approaching. With that in mind, we figured it is time to share some long over due Cattery News with our Lake View Coons friends and family, including the highly anticipated announcement relating to our upcoming adoption application process!

Titles Earned

For those of you who are caught up with reading our social media and show related blog posts, you may have already heard, but for those of you who are new to our breeding and showing journey, we wanted to officially announce that we will be taking a small break from exhibition this show season. That means that unfortunately we will not have any upcoming news to share with you for the 2023-2024 show season, relating to championship titles earned.

Showing with a house full of breeding cats can be challenging for a number of reasons. Not only is it an incredibly expensive hobby, but it can (often times) be difficult to coordinate care for everyone while we are away too. More importantly, with showing comes the risk of bringing home random bacteria or viruses. And, despite best efforts, this could ultimately put pregnant queens and neonatal kittens at risk.

Nature willing, we hope to pause with raising kittens and get back to the show hall in the Fall of 2024 (assuming we have a kitten or cat at the time that shows potential). We will of course be sure to share more once we have those future plans ironed out.

Health Screening Results

We are pleased to announce that our future queen, LakeViewCoons Ryder on the Storm, recently attended appointments for her OFA hip grading and advanced cardiac exam with echocardiogram, all of which came back with acceptable results. We still have not gotten around to updating Ryder’s profile on the QUEENS tab of our website, yet, but once these results (and her genetic test results) are watermarked and redacted, they will all be published accordingly.

Adoption Applications

As a reminder, and for those not already familiar with our adoption application process:

When reserving kittens, we always give first pick to our Cattery, and then after that to the few breeders we are closely networked with and trust. Next, we give priority to our immediate family and then to our current Lake View Coons family. We also try to prioritize approved applicants who express an interest in showing and/or who express an interest in adopting a sibling pair (that is, assuming we have kittens with show potential and/or a sibling pair that would do well going home together and with the family that expresses an interest).

Interested individuals need to submit an application with each litter.

We do not keep past applications on file.

When adoption applications are scheduled to open, no early OR late entries are accepted or considered.

We do not keep a waitlist, we do not accept deposits for kittens not yet born, and our digital adoption application form is only made visible to our website for a limited time.

Since we typically receive such an overwhelming response to our available kittens, we limit the submission of applications to a small window, typically less than 24-48 hours.

That being said, we plan to open up our adoption applications to the public, for Orion & Alya’s 3 kittens, beginning on Saturday, December 16th at 8 AM Eastern Time and ending at 8 PM Eastern Time that same day.

All kittens in this litter are priced at $3500 USD.

Beginning on Saturday the 16th, we will review applications and begin making calls to those selected for the next phase of our reservation process, the phone interview. Our goal is to have our final decisions made before the end of the weekend and contracts out by end of the day on Monday the 18th.

After our contract is reviewed and signed, we will send a digital invoice via PayPal Business. If you are selected to reserve one of our available kittens, payment will NOT need to be made in full until after the new year. Scheduled pick up times for kittens will be coordinated for the weekend of January 6th and 7th.

If you are unable to physically meet us at our cattery to pick up your kitten by Saturday, January 13th, please hold off on submitting an application until a future litter.

Planned Pairings

We are especially excited to announce that we have a confirmed pregnancy and a Christmas litter due. RW QGC IAU Orion’s Hunt StarArk and LakeViewCoons Ryder on the Storm will welcome their first litter into the world just after the Holidays.

MALE kittens in this litter could be red tabby, red silver tabby, solid red, red smoke, solid black, black smoke, black silver tabby, or brown (black) tabby.

FEMALE kittens in this litter could be solid black, black smoke, black silver tabby, black silver torbie, brown (black) tabby, or brown (black) torbie.

Since Orion is a mackerel tabby and carries the classic tabby pattern, kittens could have classic, mackerel, shaded, or chinchilla coats. Because Ryder is with white (paws, ruff, belly), some of her kittens could also be with white.

We hope to begin sharing this litter’s updated photos to the KITTENS tab of our website and to social media in the near new year.

If all goes according to plan, kittens from this litter will have tentative go-home dates set for the first weekend of April 2024. More details relating to this litter will be published once the litter is born and we have a chance to properly evaluate the litter for breed and show potential. Because one of the parents of this litter has earned championship titles, altered pets and altered show kittens will be priced at $3500 USD.

As for our upcoming plans for early 2024, RW QGC IAU Orion’s Hunt StarArk and GRC LakeViewCoons Anchored Hope (aka Blurry)will be paired in late December. Nature willing, we hope to be expecting kittens from them the last weekend in February.

Both MALE and FEMALE kittens in Orion & Blurry’s litter could have solid black, black smoke, black silver classic/mackerel tabby, or brown (black) classic/mackerel tabby coats.

If all goes according to plan, kittens from this litter will have tentative go-home dates set for the first or second weekend of June 2024. Because both of the parents of this litter have earned championship titles, altered pets and altered show kittens will be priced at $4000 USD.

Retired Queens

Last and certainly not least, we’d like to share that we have retired two of our beautiful breeding queens, Setareh and Blue. Both girls have been such a joy to raise and love on over the last few years, and they have both produced some absolutely amazing kittens! Setareh has already joined her new FURless momma as of last month, and Blue will be joining hers after Thanksgiving. We wish both families all the best, and a big THANK YOU for loving and spoiling these girls in their much deserved retirement.
